Well I wasn't expecting to see scrapstores on telly but well done to whoever sorted that out. That this website crashed under the strain of interest minutes later is great too!!
And I believe Ellen is a celebrity now!

These stats at 10:00 am today :- “In total there are 1853 users Online :: 7 Members and 1846 Guests”. Normally it’s no more than 5 or 6 total, AND that’s only minutes after the website (briefly) came back online!

Hi Snape 79,

Scrapstores are a national Phenomenon.
We are all independant of each other and run in slightly different ways. Some scrapstores are supported by the local authority in the area they are in, some are funded and some are struggling along doing the best that they can with very little resource. It completely depends on the scrapstore in your area how much they need to charge to make ends meet (or nearly meet!!)

I am sure that others will post and add to this brief explanation?

Not all scrapstores are run like shops. For example. WRAP in Watford asks only for an annual membership - scrap is then free.
When Charlie from Bristol used to run the Directory we used to occasionally learn of Scrapstores that closed. Now they just seem to disappear without trace. Charlie has asked about Brent. There once was a store in Brent but I know nothing of a new scrapstore opening. I tried Rotherham in response to a message here. Google says the scrapstore in Sheffield has closed. I believe Aylesbury (Stoke Mandeville) is going out of business. There used to be an 'Alchemists' scrap store at Lancing I think - has this disappeared? Is the scrapstore world in trouble?
