Empty lorry/van return trips

Has anyone ever found a haulier willing to transport stock from one scrapstore to another for free, making use of empty space?

Our new member of staff Nigel would be interested to know when he meets us at the Confrence.

Yes although in a frustrating quirk of fate it never came to fruition. We were approached by a logistics company who wanted to do exactly this. They had contacted a PR company looking to contribute to some kind of charity or community project in some way, and raise their CSR profile (as we'd now call it but probably didn't at the time). They wanted to see what ideas they could come up with. The PR person assigned was a scrapstore user who saw the synergy straight away and suggested exactly what you've mentioned. All was developing swimmingly until....the company went into receivership!

An unusual set of circumstances then that saw the idea develop and an unfortunate twist that saw it never happen. It's still a great idea though, but I wonder if it needs to be driven as that was from the logistics company side to make it actuially happen.

I should add - that was 10 years ago!

It's got a future - an idea ahead of its time. Just needs a forward thinking logistics company OR a very patient scrapstore to make it work!
