Do smaller studios benefit more from production support than big ones?

It’s easy to assume that only small indie studios need external support, but I’ve noticed that even big publishers often lean on outside help for production and co-development. Smaller teams may gain flexibility and access to skills they don’t have in-house, while larger companies use support to meet tight deadlines and manage massive workloads. Which do you think gains more—indies who get to compete at a higher level, or AAA studios that can expand capacity?
