My towing cost more than the actual repair and I'm upset

My car broke down near the airport and I made the mistake of just letting the nearest tow truck take it to some shop he recommended. Turns out that shop was far from my house and now I had to pay a fortune just to get it back to my side of town after the fix. I was reading an article about why local garages matter for faster repairs and it made me realize I created my own problem here. If I had just found someone local to begin with I could have avoided the long tow and all this extra stress. Has anyone else learned this lesson the hard way or am I the only one who didn't think about towing costs beforehand?
