Anyone tried custom cotton patches, worth it?

Been looking into custom cotton patches for a small project, mostly jacket patches. Not totally sure how cotton stacks up against the usual twill or felt backing everyone uses, seems softer from what I've seen but wasn't sure if that means it wears out faster.
If anyone's actually gone with cotton before, would be good to hear how they held up over time. Also curious if detailed designs come out clean on cotton or if it's more of a simple-logo type material. Trying to figure this out before I order.
